About TradeCalc
TradeCalc is built and run by Talha Ansari, an independent developer. It is a free collection of calculators for home improvement and trades work — concrete volumes, lumber board feet, roofing squares, paint coverage, fence materials, landscaping quantities, and project cost estimators. It exists for one reason: job-site math should take ten seconds, not ten minutes with a phone calculator and a scrap of paper.
The site started from a simple observation: material math mistakes are expensive. Order too little concrete and the pour stalls with the crew standing around; order too much lumber and hundreds of dollars sit in the garage for a decade; accept a contractor bid without a sanity check and you can pay 30–50% more than the going rate. Each calculator here does the trade-specific arithmetic — the conversions, coverage rates, and waste allowances that experienced pros carry in their heads — and shows its work on the page, so you can trust the number and understand where it came from.
Accuracy is the whole bet. Every calculator's formula is documented in plain language on its own page, with worked examples using real dimensions and real computed numbers. When a reader reports a math error, it gets verified and fixed — the contact page explains how to report one. The calculators are deliberately simple, transparent tools: no black boxes, no hidden assumptions.
Every calculator runs 100% in your browser. Nothing you type is uploaded, stored, or transmitted anywhere — there is no account, no signup, and no server processing your numbers. Your measurements never leave your device. The site does use Google Analytics to count visits in aggregate (see the privacy policy), but your calculator inputs are never part of that.
Cost estimators are planning tools with clearly labeled assumptions; they are not contractor quotes. Material prices and labor rates vary widely by region and over time, so always get local quotes before committing to a budget. Structural, electrical, plumbing, and roofing work must comply with local building codes and, where required, be performed or reviewed by licensed professionals.
TradeCalc is an independent project. It is not affiliated with any manufacturer, retailer, or contractor network mentioned in guides or examples. The site is free to use and supported by advertising — the calculators themselves will always be free, with no accounts, no paywalls, and no "premium" tier.
There are currently 16 calculators covering concrete, lumber, roofing, drywall, paint, tile, decking, fencing, stairs, and landscaping. New calculators get added by request — if your trade has a calculation that eats your time, say so via the contact page and popular requests get built first.
The site is maintained as an ongoing project: formulas are re-checked, pages are expanded with better examples, and new calculators are added over time. If you use TradeCalc regularly and something could be clearer — a confusing label, a missing unit, a worked example that doesn't match your trade's conventions — that feedback is genuinely useful and welcome.
